Chorus Cup

Rosemarie Barnard Chorus Shield (2025): Rules & Such.

The Rosemarie Barnard Chorus Cup is a new venture for BFF. This is supported by Rosemarie Barnard who is a regular singer at local events and a sufferer of Parkinson’s Disease. Rosemarie is passionate about encouraging people to sing for its health and mental health benefits. She is providing the winners shield . This will take place in The Three Tuns on Saturday 6th Sept from 2 - 4.30pm. Advance registering for your team is essential. All rules and details are included below.

Team size: 3- 6 persons

No accompanying instrumentation or percussion.

Any song, traditional or contemporary, in a folk style with a dominant chorus element.

To avoid duplication of material, the team which registers a song at the earliest date has priority over the title. Clashes will be notified in good order to allow time to change song choice.

Entry applications to be sent by email to pggtuition@outlook.com by midnight 23/08/2025. Later entries may be accepted at the organiser’s discretion.

Entrants are politely requested to keep the duration of their songs below the 5-minute mark.

The use of written prompts by performers is strongly discouraged. However, if individuals have an exceptional need to view words while singing, we would ask that they do so as discreetly as possible as it can negatively affect the entertainment value of the performance.

This is an amateur competition. Please no professional, or semi- pro, teams. Entries will not be accepted by groups of singers who have collectively been engaged by Bungay Folk Festival, past or present.

Entrants are strongly urged to attend for the duration of Chorus Cup event to encourage and appreciate other participants. Awards will not be made in absentia.

Audience participation is welcomed, but we would ask that teams are allowed the space to sing at least their first chorus without the audience joining in (for the benefit of the performers and to aid the competition judges).

Teams are encouraged to bear in mind the spirit of the folk tradition and adopt appropriate behaviour. Evidence of excessive rehearsal, unwarranted sobriety, the visible consumption of wine or lager during performance, and the wearing of loud shirts, may incur penalties at the judges’ discretion.

Attempts to bribe the judges with cash, alcohol and other favours will be warmly received, but with no reciprocal guarantees.

The decisions of the judging panel are final.
